Mission Statement

The San Francisco Young Playwrights Foundation is the home of the San Francisco Young Playwrights Festival, the premiere citywide festival for developing and presenting new works by young people in the city.

We believe that San Francisco’s rich arts community should also include the work of the next generation of young artists, and we work to promote the city’s new voices in the theater. We provide winning playwrights with mentors to revise and shape their work and guide the plays to full production. Our goal is to create an environment that encourages new works by student playwrights so that young people can share their words with all of San Francisco.

The San Francisco Young Playwrights Foundation aims to:

• Develop the next generation of young playwrights
• Encourage young people to express themselves positively through the arts
• Promote the arts as a vital part of young people’s education and development
• Serve as an advocate for youth regardless of race, gender, or socioeconomic status
• Celebrate San Francisco’s rich cultural diversity
• Make the arts accessible to all San Franciscans
