About
The Festival
We believe that San Francisco’s rich arts community should also include the work of the next generation of young artists, and we work to promote the city’s new voices in the theater. We provide winning playwrights with mentors to revise and shape their work and guide the plays to full production. Our goal is to create an environment that encourages new works by student playwrights so that young people can share their words with all of San Francisco.
The festival is a year-long process, beginning in September with the citywide call for submissions and ending in May with the performance of the finished plays.
A selection committee of playwrights, theater artists, and community leaders will review and choose the winners of the festival. The winning playwrights will then develop their plays with the assistance of professional playwright mentors to polish their work.
Directors will lead professional actors through the rehearsals and productions of the plays. The process will culminate in a weekend-long run celebrating the achievements of the city’s finest young playwrights.
All high school students living in San Francisco are strongly encouraged to submit their plays to the festival.
